The Marriage Improvement Book Experience : romantic short stories for married couples

Susan’s friend told Susan via SMS about a new book her husband was reading and how it had improved their marriage by many miles over. By the time Susan and her friend had finished texting each other, Susan got so excited about it that she went out to buy the book.

Susan’s daughter finds her with the book and asks her if she’s going to give it to Dad and tell him to read it since the name of the book interestingly was: “How to be a better husband.”

Susan says no that she has to be more subtle than that. She can’t just walk up to her husband and give him a book named, “How to be a better husband” It would be somehow if she did that.

Susan told her daughter that these things require a rather slick approach, that she should watch and learn from a pro.

Susan tries talking to her husband about the husband of the friend of hers that recommend the book to her since her husband knew him too. Perhaps she could use him as a way to chip in the book her friend recommended and talk about how she said it had improved her own husband.

But surprisingly, the mention of her friend’s husband’s name made her husband go into a rant about all the times that her friend’s husband had cheated him in golf.

By the time he was through with the rant, it was clear to Susan that that wasn’t the best way to use to introduce the book she had just bought for him.

Susan’s daughter looks at her. She looks back at her daughter like she’s got it under control she knows what she’s doing.

She tries telling her husband that when was the last time that he read a good book; any good book? She was planning to use it as an opportunity to shove the book that she bought for him into his hands but he quickly said that it has been a long time so he will go to their family library; that there are tons of books in there that he’s wanted to read that he just doesn’t have time to read.

Susan’s daughter looks at her. She looks back at her daughter like she’s got it under control she knows what she’s doing.

She tries distracting him so she can slip into the library with him and then keep the book she bought for him on top the stack of books he planned to read, so her book would look like an old book and he would read it. However, after she finished pulling off her little trick, her husband didn’t pick any of the books at the top of the book stack; he picked a book on economics in the middle that caught his attention.

Susan’s daughter looks at her. She looks back at her daughter like she’s got it under control she knows what she’s doing but this time there is a hint of frustration on her face.

After a little reading, her husband says that he’ll be running to the store to get some things, that he’ll be right back.

As soon as he leaves Susan slumps into a chair.

Susan’s daughter asked, “What now?”

Susan is like, “I’m coming, I’m coming give me time to think.”

Susan’s daughter smiles and holds back her laughter. She did not want to hurt her mother’s feelings, but she was finding the whole thing very amusing.

Later, Susan’s husband came back with a basket full of groceries and goodies from the store. He is like, “Honey, Honey! you would never guess what I just got from the store. Now don’t get me wrong you are an excellent wife but I got this book called how to be a better wife. It’s simply great. I’m not saying that you aren’t already a great wife but the author said that it is a hit with wives so I figured you won’t feel offended if I gave it to you. You would like to read the book won’t you?”

Susan brings out the book she had been trying to give him all day from underneath her sweater and says, “I have something for you too. Coincidentally, it’s called ‘How to be a better husband.’ It’s simply great. I’m not saying that you aren’t already a great husband but my mind is now telling me that it is a hit with husbands so I just figured you won’t feel offended if I gave it to you even though other husbands who aren’t as strange as you are would definitely feel offended. You would like to read the book won’t you?”

Immediately, Susan and her husband’s daughter; burst out laughing.

The End.
